Optoelectronical proximity switches

Optoelectronical proximity switches

Application

Optoelectronical proximity switches are operating with pulsed infra-red light (invisible area approximately 900 nm). The range of applications is almost inexhaustible. The system is used for recording, surveillance, positioning, differentiation, sorting or controlling of materials in any branch of industry. Moulded into the housing, the electronical parts are impact-resitant and not subjected to wear and tear.

Operation

The complete electronical unit composed of the transmitter and receiver is accommodated in a safe enclosure. The transmitter diode emits infra-red pulses. When reflected, the infra-red light of the recipient transistor is converted to electronical impulses and the output activated the recipient's amplifier is selective and cannot be influenced by secondary light sources.

All versions (except for IRF) can be easily equipped with fibre-optical light guides.

The switches enable detection/tracing at

  • Hig temperatures
  • Extremely limited space
  • Extremely small components
  • Aggressive atmosphere, dust and humidity

Depending on individual requirements, the light guides are accommodated and available in a variety of protective tubes made from V2A, silicone, aluminium, polyamide etc. and in various length sizes an active cross sections. As a result, we can supply optimum custom-made solutions that fit any application requirement.

Depending on the version and design of the conductor, the following functions are available:

 Light barrier

Light barrier typ "L" (formerly   typ ..II)

 Proximity switch

Light barrier typ "T" (formerly typ ...Y-1)

The nominal range of the proximity switches refer to a white surface 400mm x 400mm withot the connected light guide. Adapting a light guide reduces the range. The degree of reduction depends on the light guide version.

Important:

In ex-zones, using proximity switches of typ I...D ("flame-proof"/impact-resistan enclosure) or the AX series ("inherently safe") is a basic requirement.

All conductors included in our product range can be connected to these special "ex proximity switches" by means of an M30 thread.
