Optical distance measurement in hazardous areas
The TMx product family has been developed to measure distances to liquid surfaces in hazardous areas.
In particular, it can also detect transparent liquids (e.g., clear coat, alcohol, solvents, flammable liquids).
The sensor measures the spatially resolved distance to a certain area on the target object. This makes it possible to measure even on turbulent liquid surfaces and uneven surfaces of bulk materials.
The spatially resolved measurement also allows specific areas of the field of view to be excluded, for example, to ignore obstacles. For uneven surfaces, an average distance can be calculated. The spatially resolved distance data can also be used to detect the inclination of the observed surface.

The measurement value can be read digitally via an RS-485 interface or through a 4–20 mA current interface. Additionally, the sensor has a switching output that activates at a configurable distance.
All parameters for the current interface and the switching output can be configured via the RS-485 interface.
For manual parameterization, a convenient menu system is available, which can be operated with any terminal program. It is also possible to deliver factory-preconfigured devices according to customer specifications, with the option to lock further parameterization.
